How to get there:

The Celrà plant, located 100 km to the north of Barcelona and built in the early 1980s on an area of 90,000 m², is Esteve Quimica's most important production centre.
Its state of the art facilities offer a versatility that makes it a worldwide benchmark production plant. It has the best equipment in terms of producing active ingredients, quality control, quality assurance and waste treatment. The plant is regularly inspected by the US authorities (FDA) and Japanese authorities (KIKO).
The plant, with a total reactor volume of approximately 300 m³, is divided into several specialised units according to the requirements of our clients and of the health authorities for producing active ingredients.
A wide range of reactors (in materials such as stainless steel, enamel and Hastelloy) with a capacity of 1 to 10 m³ ensures great flexibility for the multi-stage synthesis of products with reactions from -80ºC to 200ºC. Completely fitted with auxiliary equipment (centrifuges, filters and dryers) to isolate the finished product as per cGMPs.
Special reactions that may require, for example, low or high temperatures (from -80ºC to +200ºC), high pressure (up to 20 bars) and also some reactions carried out under strict safety conditions, such as Grignards, Hydrogenation, etc.
With a reaction volume of 15 m³, these installations have been designed for catalyst hydrogenation at pressures of up to 15 bars with any kind of catalyst (for reactions in the homogeneous or heterogeneous phase).
Plant where the last steps of production of an active ingredient are performed. Includes single-purpose areas working under controlled atmosphere.
One of the main strengths of the Celrà plant is a fully dedicated workshop for the physical handling of the finished product. The concept has been based on a pharmaceutical philosophy in order to adopt the strictest requirements to protect the active ingredient (Milling, Micronizing, Blending, Packaging.) under controlled atmosphere. This large area (3,800 m²) consists of 12 independent suites (with a total clean area of 900 m²), specifically designed to assure product quality and avoid cross-contamination. This unit allows great flexibility in terms of volume handling (from 10-kg to 1000-kg batches) and granulometry of final product (from 1 to 500 micra).
The Celrà plant has a waste water treatment facility with a daily capacity of 600 m³.
The water is treated in three phases: a physical-chemical treatment, a biological treatment (in three stages) and a tertiary treatment.
As a conclusion, the whole product cycle could be summarized as follows:
